The entire system will be built to operate under the linux operating system. This base OS will be built based on the Linux From Scratch project which aims to build the entire operating system from sources allowing for the system to operate at peak efficiencies. Finally, the software development has restarted on this not so little project. Currently I am building the automated Audio CD ripping daemon which will process any audio cd inserted into the local cdrom drive (linked to /dev/cdrom), and progressivly work through the tracks perform the following operations: Call cdparanoia to extract the audio from the CD. (http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/.) Call normalize to adjust the loudness of the extracted wav file. (http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~cvaill/normalize/.) Call lame to encode the wav file into a MPEG 1 Layer 3 (mp3) file. (http://lame.sourceforge.net/.) Query the CDDB at FreeDB.org for track details. (if the internet is available, otherwise save the critical details for processing once connectivity to the internet is restored.) (http://www.freedb.org/.) Fill the ID3v2 tags in the mp3 files with the info obtained from FreeDB.org using id3lib. (http://id3lib.sourceforge.net/.)
